BDC expands Pivot to Grow loan with $500M stream for tariff-hit firms

On 25 August 2026 Ottawa and BDC expanded the Pivot to Grow loan, adding a $500-million liquidity stream with financing starting at $250,000 and up to $5 million per borrower. Eligibility was eased to $1M+ in annual revenue, 3 years in business, and either 15% of sales from U.S. exports or a 5-10% tariff-driven revenue drop or cost increase. The program runs until 31 March 2028.

Why this matters for founders

A Canadian founder whose startup exports to the U.S. or is squeezed by tariff costs can apply to BDC for working-capital or equipment financing from $250K to $5M to bridge cash flow while pivoting supply chains or markets.
