Google opens Home MCP so AI agents can control smart-home devices

On September 16, 2026, Google launched early access to Home MCP, a Model Context Protocol server that lets any MCP-capable agent (Antigravity, Claude, and others) monitor devices, read event history, and control Nest and Matter devices. Access is rolling out in English to US Google Home Premium Advanced ($20/mo) users and requires standing up a Google Cloud project.

Why this matters for founders

Hardware, IoT, and consumer-app founders get a standard agent interface into the Google Home ecosystem. Prototype against Home MCP to add AI control without building custom device integrations.
