On June 29-30, 2026, Brazil's federal Executive sent Congress bill PLP 186/2026, which would raise the MEI (Microempreendedor Individual) annual revenue ceiling from the current R$81,000 to R$110,000 in 2027 and R$140,000 in 2028. It would also let a MEI hire up to two employees, versus one today. The bill is still in early committee stages at the Camara dos Deputados and, as a complementary law, needs absolute-majority approval in both the Chamber and the Senate.
