From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying self-employment or property income over GBP 50,000 must keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC using compatible software. HMRC will not apply late-submission penalty points for quarterly updates in the first tax year (2026 to 2027), and the threshold drops to GBP 30,000 from April 2027.
