OpenHands 1.0 ships production self-hosted coding agent at 68% SWE-bench Verified

The open-source autonomous coding agent OpenHands reached its 1.0 release on September 8, 2026, adding Docker sandboxing, built-in security policies, resource limits and a plugin system. It reports completing about 68% of SWE-bench Verified tasks, putting a self-hostable, free option in range of paid commercial coding agents.

Why this matters for founders

Founders can run a capable coding agent on their own machine or VPC without per-task fees or sending source to a vendor, cutting engineering costs and keeping proprietary code in-house.
