Sydney anti-scam AI startup Apate.AI raises A$11.4M seed

Sydney-founded Apate.AI raised A$11.4 million (about US$8.15 million) in a seed round announced 31 August 2026, led by Silicon Valley's Lobby Capital with OIF Ventures, Investible, Concept Ventures and Baobab Ventures. The company builds adversarial conversational AI agents that pose as scam victims to infiltrate fraud networks (used by institutions like Commonwealth Bank), and reincorporated as a Delaware company while keeping its tech and research teams in Sydney.

Why this matters for founders

The raise signals strong investor appetite for Australian adversarial-AI and cybersecurity plays, and models the 'Delaware flip' playbook: pull in US lead capital and open overseas offices while keeping R&D and headcount local in Sydney.
