UK energytech Certain Energy raises GBP 10M Series A led by British Business Bank

UK long-duration storage startup Certain Energy (formerly RFC Power, an Imperial College spin-out) closed a GBP 10M (~EUR 11.6M) Series A on August 26, 2026, led by the government-backed British Business Bank with Centrica, Ceres Power and Temasek Trust's Catalytic Capital fund. It will fund a grid-connected MWh-class manganese flow-battery system in India and expand its UK R&D facility.

Why this matters for founders

A state-backed bank leading a deep-tech Series A underscores growing public co-investment in climate hardware—hardware founders should map government-backed funds into their cap-table strategy.
