Växa-stöd hiring relief switches to pay-first, refund-later from Jan 2026

Växa-stöd hiring relief switches to pay-first, refund-later from Jan 2026

From the January 2026 reporting period, Skatteverket removes the Växa-stöd checkbox in the employer declaration: small firms must now pay the full 31.42% employer contribution up front, then file a separate electronic refund claim within one year to recover the reduction (down to 10.21% on salary up to SEK 35,000/month, for up to two employees over 24 months). The change stems from EU de minimis state-aid registration rules and adds administrative cost and a cash-flow lag versus the old automatic deduction.

Why this matters for founders

A founder hiring their first or second employee in 2026 should budget for the full employer-contribution cash outflow each month and set a recurring reminder to file the electronic Växa-stöd refund form with Skatteverket, keeping documentation to claim back up to ~SEK 350,000 over two years.
