CFPB narrows small-business lending data-collection rule (1071)

CFPB narrows small-business lending data-collection rule (1071)

In May 2026 the CFPB finalized a rule narrowing the Dodd-Frank Section 1071 small-business lending data-collection requirements, cutting near-term compliance burden for community banks, credit unions, and smaller non-depository lenders. The scaled-back requirements are set to take effect June 30, 2026.

Why this matters for founders

Founders applying for small-business credit may face fewer mandatory demographic-data questions, and streamlined lender rules could ease and speed the application process.
