From Aug 3, 2026 Brazilian e-invoices must carry new IBS/CBS tax fields or be rejected

Starting August 3, 2026, companies in the normal tax regime must include the new IBS and CBS tax reform fields (rates, 3-digit CST situation code, and cClassTrib classification code) in electronic invoices (NF-e and NFC-e), and the government system will automatically reject any document that omits them. Services under ISS follow on October 1, 2026, most service invoices (NFS-e) on December 1, 2026, and Simples Nacional companies from January 1, 2027. No tax is actually collected during 2026 (a testing phase), but a rejected invoice blocks billing and hits cash flow.

Why this matters for founders

Founders should confirm now that their ERP or invoicing provider has been updated to populate IBS/CBS, CST, and cClassTrib fields before the August 3 cutover, and map each product/service to its correct cClassTrib code to avoid rejected invoices that stop them from billing customers.
