IndiaAI Mission crosses 38,000 GPUs, offers subsidised AI compute to startups

In an official update dated August 11, 2026, MeitY confirmed the Rs 10,372 crore IndiaAI Mission has onboarded more than 38,000 GPUs for its common compute facility - over three times the original 10,000-GPU target - and is providing this capacity to Indian startups and academia at heavily subsidised rates. Under the scheme, general AI workloads get up to a 40% compute subsidy while startups selected to build foundational AI models receive up to a 100% compute subsidy.

Why this matters for founders

AI and deep-tech founders can apply through the IndiaAI Compute Portal to rent H100-class GPUs at roughly 40% below commercial cloud pricing, or bid into the Foundation Models call for proposals for a 100% compute subsidy, cutting a mid-size training run's cost by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
