IndiaAI Mission puts 38,000+ subsidised GPUs within reach of DPIIT startups

MeitY's official update (page last updated 16 September 2026) confirms that more than 38,000 GPUs for the common compute facility have been onboarded through the AI Compute Portal and are being provided to Indian start-ups and academia at an affordable rate, under the Rs 10,372 crore IndiaAI Mission. Reported subsidised pricing runs around Rs 65 per GPU-hour, well below commercial H100 cloud rates, with a government target of 100,000 public GPUs by December 2026.

Why this matters for founders

An AI or deep-tech founder with DPIIT recognition should register on the IndiaAI Compute Portal via Meri Pehchaan (DigiLocker/Parichay) and submit a project proposal to claim subsidised GPU-hours instead of paying full commercial cloud rates for model training.
