IRS 1099 reporting threshold jumps from $600 to $2,000 for 2026 payments

Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the Form 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC reporting threshold rises from $600 to $2,000 for payments made in 2026, its first change since the 1950s, and adjusts for inflation from 2027. The Act also reinstates the Form 1099-K threshold at $20,000 and 200 transactions.

Why this matters for founders

Fewer contractor and vendor 1099s to issue next January: reset your bookkeeping and payroll software's 1099 trigger to $2,000, but keep tracking all payments since the income is still taxable.
