Payday Super now live: employers must pay super within 7 business days of payday

Australia's Payday Super regime commenced 1 July 2026, replacing the 30-year quarterly super system. Employers must now ensure the 12% superannuation guarantee reaches each worker's fund within 7 business days of paying wages (super funds get 3 business days to allocate), and the ATO's free Small Business Superannuation Clearing House closed on 1 July 2026. Late contributions attract SG charge penalties, with the ATO applying a transitional compliance approach (PCG 2025/D5) for the first year to 30 June 2027.

Why this matters for founders

Founders who employ staff must switch payroll to remit super every pay run (not quarterly) and move off the now-closed SBSCH to a compliant clearing house or STP-integrated payroll before their next payday to avoid penalties and interest.
