Sweden lifts work permit salary floor to SEK 34,470/month from June 2026

As of 16 June 2026 the Swedish Migration Agency set the national median salary at SEK 38,300, so a first-time work permit now requires a monthly salary of at least SEK 34,470 (90% of the median). This follows the 1 June 2026 labour-migration reform, which replaced the old 'good livelihood' test, added a comprehensive health-insurance requirement, and extended EU Blue Card validity from two years to four.

Why this matters for founders

A Swedish founder hiring non-EU talent must budget at least SEK 34,470/month per work-permit hire and document collective-agreement-level terms plus health insurance; for scarce senior tech roles the now 4-year EU Blue Card is the smoother route.
