Sweden work permit pay floor rises to 90% of median wage from June 1 2026

From 1 June 2026 a first-time Swedish work permit requires a salary of at least 90% of the national median wage, up from the old 80% level (which was SEK 29,680/month); press pegs the new floor near SEK 33,390/month. It applies only to first-time applications decided on or after 1 June 2026, while extensions filed between 1 June and 1 December 2026 keep the 80% rule.

Why this matters for founders

Founders hiring non-EU talent must budget salaries at or above the 90% median floor and match collective agreement norms, since underpaid offers will now be rejected by Migrationsverket. Time any pending extension filings before 1 December 2026 to stay under the old 80% threshold.
