In media release 26-181MR (August 2026), ASIC launched the Small Business Director Essentials hub, a free digital resource with a director roadmap, obligation guidance, and online learning modules covering the whole company lifecycle from setup to closure. It was built on research into 400 small business directors, which found 49% cited lack of time/resources and 49% regulatory complexity as barriers, while about one-third had limited understanding of the consequences of breaching their duties.
ASIC launches free Small Business Director Essentials hub for founders
Any Australian founder who is a company director should work through the free hub early to understand personal director obligations (including insolvent-trading and financial-difficulty duties) before problems arise, rather than paying for advice reactively.
