Under the Treasury Laws Amendment (Business Registries Stabilisation and Uplift) Act 2026, from 1 July 2027 companies must provide directors' 15-digit director identification numbers to ASIC via annual reviews and change-of-director notifications, a requirement added to the Corporations Act 2001. ASIC's September 2026 InFocus confirms there is no immediate obligation change but urges directors to verify their ASIC records now and cross-check them against the ABRS 'Manage your director ID' portal.
ASIC to collect director IDs from 1 July 2027 under new registry law
Founders who are company directors should confirm they hold a director ID and that their ASIC company record (names, addresses, officeholders) is current now, so the 2027 reporting requirement does not stall annual reviews or director changes.
