Canada's new AI strategy pledges $2.3B, incl. $500M Canadian Tech Growth Fund

On June 4, 2026, Canada unveiled a national AI strategy with roughly $2.3 billion in spending, headlined by a new $500-million Canadian Tech Growth Fund offering growth capital, investment support, and occasional federal equity in Canadian AI firms. It also tops up the Regional AI Initiative ($500M), Compute Access Fund ($700M), an AI Missions Program for health ($200M), and $130M for commercialization via Vector, Mila, and Amii. Application and access details for most programs are still to come, with more expected in the fall 2026 budget.

Why this matters for founders

AI-building founders should track the Canadian Tech Growth Fund and Compute Access Fund rollouts and line up now via their regional AI institute (Vector, Mila, or Amii) so they're ready when application windows open in the coming months.
