Sweden's Riksdag approved a temporary cut in the VAT rate on food and bottled water from 12% to 6%, effective 1 April 2026 through 31 December 2027. The reduction covers food for human consumption including takeaway, but excludes alcohol, tap water, tobacco and medicines; dine-in restaurant meals eaten on site remain at 12%.
