UK expands Growth Guarantee Scheme, adds £500m ENABLE line for IP-rich startups

On 13 July 2026 the government expanded the British Business Bank's Growth Guarantee Scheme, raising maximum loan terms from 6 to 10 years and turnover eligibility from £45m to £54m, aiming to support 20,000 businesses a year (up from 8,000) and £3.35bn of annual lending by 2028/29. It also allocated £500m of ENABLE Guarantee capacity specifically to back IP-rich SMEs and scaling firms.

Why this matters for founders

Founders needing debt finance can approach a British Business Bank accredited GGS lender for a 70%-guaranteed loan on longer terms; IP-heavy software and deep-tech startups are the direct target of the new £500m ENABLE line.
