SMS Sender ID Register now mandatory: register brand names or texts show 'Unverified'

From 1 July 2026 Australia's SMS Sender ID Register (run by ACMA) is mandatory: businesses must register the branded/alphanumeric sender IDs they use in texts via an ACMA-approved telco or messaging provider. Unregistered branded SMS are now flagged 'Unverified' on recipients' phones and grouped as likely scams. The scheme follows $13.8M in reported SMS scam losses in the first nine months of 2025.

Why this matters for founders

If you send customer SMS (OTPs, order updates, marketing) under your brand name, register your sender ID through your SMS provider now, or your messages will land labelled 'Unverified' and hurt trust and deliverability.
