Sweden ends duty-free imports: EUR 3 per-item customs fee from July 1, 2026

From 1 July 2026 Sweden applies a customs fee to non-EU online orders even under EUR 150 (SEK 1,655.30), previously duty-exempt. The fee is EUR 3 per item type (one fee for multiple identical items), usually paid by the webshop if it is IOSS-connected; otherwise the consumer pays it plus VAT on import. It is a temporary flat charge that will be replaced by a percentage-based customs duty on 1 July 2028.

Why this matters for founders

E-commerce and marketplace founders sourcing or dropshipping from outside the EU must add EUR 3 per item type to landed cost and pricing, and confirm their platform or supplier is IOSS-registered so the fee is prepaid rather than surprising customers at delivery.
